Congratulations to first-time marathon runner David Carles who celebrated his completion of the New York City Marathon Sunday with his brother Mark, a fibrolamellar patient. Mark, along with his critical care medical team, was brought by ambulance from the intensive care unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital to the finish line of the race, so the brothers from Staten Island, New York could share the accomplishment together.
Despite living life everyday to the fullest, Mark is in the midst of a tough fight with FLC. David took up running in honor of Mark who ran cross-country throughout high school and into college.
David and Mark’s inspiring marathon story has been published in New York-Presbyterian’s Health Matters blog. The complete article can be read here.
