Dr. Arfaoui, a postdoctoral researcher at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA, was named the second recipient of the Brave Fellowship at Fred Hutch. The fellowship, funded by the Brave Like Gabe Foundation and Brooks Running, honors Gabriele Grunewald, a former professional middle-distance runner who died of a rare cancer in 2019.
The fellowship funds Arfaoui’s research on fibrolamellar carcinoma in the lab of Dr. Taran Gujral, which is attempting to determine the signaling pathways that drive tumor growth and proliferation in FLC, and to develop an effective treatment. The following video, produced by Hutch News, outlines her research, her path into science and what it means to her to be the latest Brave Fellow.
