FCF Funded Projects

FLC Research Data Initiative

Status: Active

Timeframe: 2024 – 2026

Goals: Streamline the collection, analysis and sharing of FLC data across institutions while supporting the broader goals of open science and collaborative research within the FLC research network

Principal Investigators and Partners: FCF; Velsera; Praveen Sethupathy, PhD, Cornell University; Taran Gujral, PhD, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center

Study Overview: This study intends to deepen our understanding of the molecular underpinnings of FLC by implementing a state-of-the-art bioinformatic platform for FLC that can serve as a centralized hub for FLC research and integrate previously siloed “-omic” datasets. This hub, leveraging Velsera’s Seven Bridges Platform, will serve as a center-point of data collaboration across research teams by:

  • Streamlining access to the next generation sequencing data obtained from FCF’s biospecimens
  • “Virtually” aggregating and harmonizing all available data to create a critical mass of FLC information sourced from FCF, our research partners, and public datasets
  • Allowing “co-analysis” of system data with any researcher-supplied information
  • Simplifying data analysis by offering easy-to-use, pre-made apps, robust visualization tools, and replicable pipelines that support detailed bioinformatic analysis, while also allowing individuals who are not specialized bioinformaticians to quickly answer data-related research questions
  • Providing robust security and access controls that protect the data and allow institutional “owners” of virtually aggregated data to manage and approve access to their proprietary information

This implementation will allow the harmonization, sharing and co-analysis of critically important FLC data across institutions and large public datasets (including the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)), while ensuring that appropriate security and permission authorities are maintained.
