In 2025, Elephants and Tea will host four Perkatory events ranging in relatable topics surrounding adolescent and young adult cancer. These events are open to anyone that would like to hear stories from the AYA cancer community (including patients, survivors, caregivers, co-survivors, loved ones, nonprofit professionals, medical professionals, etc.).

Perkatory events are a chance to feature writers and allow them to share their pieces about a certain topic aloud to an intimate audience of supporters and peers.

The topic of this session is “The Give and Take of Cancer”. Questions to be examined include:

  • What have you gained from cancer?
  • What have you lost from cancer?
  • Do the losses or gains you’ve experienced feel balanced to you?

In addition to the featured authors, Elephants and Tea highlights a different organization at each Perkatory event, allowing them to share their organization’s mission and unique offerings.

Each evening closes with a Q&A session, where audience members are able to ask questions to the featured writers, and thoughtful discussions can take place surrounding the overarching theme.

The Nonprofit spotlight for this Perkatory event is The Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation
