The Gregg family and the Northwestern Mutual scholarship opportunity

When childhood cancer strikes, it has a devastating impact on the patients and their families. The cost of treatment can lead to long-term financial challenges, including questions of how to afford higher education. Below is a story about Adam Gregg, a fibrolamellar fighter, and his family that was posted on the web media channel Romper in December. It outlines Adam’s fibrolamellar story and the significant scholarships that he and his siblings applied for and received from Northwestern Mutual’s Childhood Cancer program.  We thank the Gregg family for sharing their story and information about the scholarship opportunity with the fibrolamellar and AYA-cancer communities.

How One Scholarship Acknowledges The Hardships Endured By Children And Families Of Children Affected By Cancer

Northwestern Mutual offers two scholarships: one for childhood cancer survivors and one for siblings of those affected by childhood cancer. Both are open to individuals of age 25 and under, who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Their scholarship program is currently the only cancer-related scholarship program that honors the challenges that siblings of patients endure.

Northwestern Mutual Foundation’s Survivor Scholarships and Sibling Scholarships are now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applications are open through Feb. 1, 2021. To learn more about the opportunities, click here.
